As promised, here’s your monthly Card Carrying post from Sarah! She’s filling you in on everything happening over the next couple of months. Don’t miss out on some of these awesome events.
Card Carrying Books & Gifts is meant to be more than just a bookstore and gift shop; Randi and I wanted to create a place for community-building and education. With that in mind, we have several events in October and November!
Local author Lee Marcus will be giving a reading from her new book ?Hearts Afire: The Story of Moonwhistle School? in which she discusses the creation of a gender-integrated play space in a San Francisco preschool. Lee will be in the shop with us on Thursday, October 19th at 7pm. She will also have books with her to sell and sign. More details can be found here.
Regional author Destiny Kinal will be joining us for the October Urban Arts Crawl on Friday the 27th. Destiny will lead conversations with local feminists on the three waves of feminism. These casual conversations will happen at 5:30, 6:30, and 7:30 in the shop. Crawl participants are welcome to come and go as they please. Light, seasonal refreshments will be available (cider and cookies and cocoa, oh my!).
2017 means 100 years of women having the vote here in New York State, and we are going to celebrate! This Election Day, customers proudly sporting their ?I Voted? stickers will receive a free suffrage flag button. You will get a free Card Carrying sticker with a $17 purchase. Also, 17% of proceeds from the sale of ?Nevertheless She Persisted? merchandise will be donated to the National Women?s Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls, the birthplace of the women?s suffrage movement.
If you?re interested in crafting, we are making feminist-themed burlap wreathes on Thursday, November 16th at 7pm. How do you make a seasonal burlap wreath feminist-themed, you ask? Simple! You attached laminated faces of your favorite feminist icons!
The workshop is $20 per person and limited to 15 people. All crafting supplies will be provided, as well as snacks and wine! Sign up in the shop.
