We are the crystal city, so I need to write about glass once in a while. It’s good for my website’s SEO (search engine optimization) to mention GLASS and CORNING and MUSEUM every month or so… Fortunately, my lovely lady pal Bonnie works at CMoG, which stands for CORNING MUSEUM of GLASS and is located in CORNING, NY (have you found me yet Google?… OK I’ll stop being so obvious).
Bonnie recently wrote a blog over on the CMoG website entitled The Glassmakers of Herat, which gives details about how researchers happened across a glass factory in Afghanistan that was using practices known from ancient texts nearly 3,000 years old. The researchers were able to peek into the past seeing firsthand the ancient techniques and materials.
It’s worth reading, and along with the short article is a short documentary about the glassmakers of Herat. Definitely check it out here, it will give you an appreciation for the museum’s ancient glass collection.
Take Bonnie’s History of Glass Class
If you’re the kind of person who gets drawn into documentaries on ancient cultures, you would really enjoy Bonnie’s upcoming History of Glass class at 171 Cedar Arts Center (Monday’s @ 10AM starting May 6). It’ll be fun, informative, and there are three museum field trips. Bonnie is the gallery educator at the museum, she has a Masters in Classical Archaeology from Florida State, and she’s my lady pal (so you know she’s cool).

If you look again in the Corning Museum webiste, in July 2014 myself and master Herat Glassmaker Nasrullah, visited corning museum and were kindly received by curators and the museum. My organization, The Galleria, an independent arts and crafts center in Afghanistan has sponsored this event and will also in July 2015 bring Nasrullah to the US. Just a note .
