The relatively new local event, Glassfest, has launched a website for the 2011 celebration. It’s a fantastically designed event site that doubles as a way to explore our community. The “Plan Your Visit” section lists hotels, restaurants, and shops in Corning that can be useful anytime for tourists and locals. Go check it out.
Glassfest 2011 starts May 25th and goes until the 29th. It’s only the second year, but last year was a big hit. The website gives a rundown of Glassfest 2011 events such as live glassmaking stages, exhibits, live music, glass making competitions, local wine / beer tastings, a street fair, and even an 8K race.
The Corning Museum of Glass (CMoG) is hosting a special Glassfest 2300°F. Local’s know 2300° as a regular event with food, music, dancing, and glass blowing centered around various themes. But since this is part of a bigger event, I’d expect it to be even more crowded with tourists. That’s fine, I just hope they set up more drink stations; my biggest gripe at any 2300° is how long you have to wait in line for a glass of wine or beer. And that’s after you have stood in line for a “drink ticket”. EH! Just give me beer and I’ll give you money. I don’t need a middle man or a receipt. Maybe they do this to cut down on the amount of drunks. I suppose a museum filled with glass isn’t necessarily a conducive environment for binge drinking.
I went off in a little rant there; sorry about that. I’ve had too much coffee this morning. Anyway, check out the Glassfest 2011 website.
