As of today, I have lived in Corning, NY for a week and a couple days. I just moved here with my girlfriend (who works at the Corning Museum of Glass) from Tallahassee, FL (yes I moved to NY state from Florida in November). Actually, I grew up in this area, and I even took a couple summer classes at CCC in ’01 to graduate from my University (Fairleigh Dickinson – Madison, NJ) on time.
This blog is a chance for me to do three of the things I love; write, explore my community, and take photographs. Corning and the surrounding areas have a lot to offer, and being “new” to town I think I’m in a good position to explore and discover the local scene. I’ll cover local arts & events, review restaurants & businesses, visit our wonderful outdoor recreation areas, and I hope to make some friends along the way. Some other aspects of this blog will be to post lots of photos and put together an events schedule once a week.
Feel free to participate in this new Corning blog community by subscribing to our feed or just leaving some comments once in a while.
Myles started UrbanCorning.com and Facebook.com/UrbanCorning in 2008, and ran it until May of 2014. Myles moved to Tacoma, WA and his new website can be found at: www.tacomatose.com.
I saw the article for your site on the Star Gazette today. I’ve lived in Corning for a little over a year now, and I think the area needs a perspective from a newcomer.
Hope that you can continue to post regularly–and thanks for the tip on the new place on Market St. I didn’t even know it was there yet!
