It’s mid-May, and the weather is finally starting to look up. As the birds and trees and butterflies come to life, it’s a perfect time to get outside for a walk in the woods.

As I take a hike of my own, we hear two interviews with nature experts from the Southern Finger Lakes. Kris West is the Senior Field Representative for the Finger Lakes Land Trust and a self-prescribed “real estate agent for nature,” helping landowners achieve their conservation goals through conservation easements, land donations, or land sales. She has an affinity for birding and hiking, and even shares a special view from her window while we talk.

Elaine Spacher is the Executive Director at Tanglewood Nature Center in Elmira and has a passion for birds, animals, and utilizing nature for education. We talk about her background and why she feels the natural world can be healing, especially during the time of Covid-19.
