From food trucks and museum events to fashion shows and music royalty, there’s A LOT going on in Corning this weekend. And it all starts with tacos and beer.
Friday: Tacos & Beer
Everyone loves a good food truck. Around here, Global Taco is one of the best – serving up everything from traditional Mexican street tacos to their signature Upstates, which feature spiedie style chicken, lettuce, onion, and a creamy spiedie sauce on fresh, soft tortillas. The truck will be parked at Iron Flamingo Brewery this Friday, from 5-8pm. Stop by after work and grab a plate?and a pint. The Baja fish tacos pair perfectly with Iron Flamingo’s American IPA.
You know what else pairs well with tacos? Margaritas. After Iron Flamingo, make your way westward down Pulteney Street and stop at Brick House Brewery. Friday night is margarita night, and you can enjoy a $3 house margarita all night long. If margs aren’t your thing, and you’re still in a craft beer mood, sip a pint of their Copper Ale while enjoying the soulful, acoustic rock of Justin Raynor and Chris Warren. Music starts at 9pm.
Saturday: Art & Fashion
Saturday is for the museums. Beginning at 9am, join the Corning Museum of Glass for Crystal City Saturday?and be one of the first to experience the museum?s summer celebration of 150 Years of Glassmaking in the Crystal City.
Corning residents?will enjoy free admission, as the museum unveils the newly re-designed Crystal City Gallery, along with other outstanding programming – including a brand new glassmaking demonstration dedicated to sharing Corning?s unique story in becoming what the world now knows as the ?Crystal City.? In addition to the opening of the Crystal City Gallery, the museum will open a new interactive display on the West Bridge marking the 150th anniversary of glassmaking arriving in Corning. Discover how advances in transportation, like the Erie Canal and railroad system, played a major role in transforming Corning from a farm town to today’s Crystal City.
Once you’ve experienced the activities at CMOG, make your way across the Walking Bridge towards the Rockwell Museum – which is also offering free admission to locals as part of Crystal City Saturday. The Rockwell will be in the midst of Bare Bones Caf?, a community-curated pop up gallery. Saturday’s caf? schedule is chock full of unique activities, including?improvisational performances, storytelling, folk musicians, and more. The Bare Bones Caf? runs until 4:30pm.
