The downtown area is taking a chill pill this weekend thanks to the monstrous turnout at?GlassFest. However, there are a couple of events going on in the surrounding area that you should definitely attend (or not, you can make your own choices). Here we go:
?Your Outfit Is Trash!?
Although normally a downright insult, for this weekend only it is merely an obvious observation. This Saturday, June 4th, from 7-10:30pm, The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes is holding their annual Recycled Runway fundraiser at the Corning Museum of Glass. Beginning with the Silent Auction (full of artwork from the region?s most sought-after visual artists) this event features unique garments, designed by artists of all ages, crafted with recycled and re-purposed materials such as?bird feathers, plastic bags, CDs, and VHS Tapes.
Now, I know what you?re thinking. This is the perfect time to get rid of that collection of Paulie (1998) VHS? stored in your attic because you thought they would amass an innumerable value by 2010. It?s not that time. You should have listened to your sister and held onto that copy of Beauty and the Beast.
There will be a cash bar and light hors d?oeuvres throughout the event. Recycled Runway benefits The ARTS Council which?provides learning opportunities, collaborative networking, grants, and programming in Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, and Tioga counties.
VIP tickets are already sold out! Make haste to the ticket site?here!
Ithaca Festival of the Arts
Did GlassFest get you hooked on festivals? Then take a modest drive up to Ithaca this Friday through Sunday and join in on their massive three-day festival celebrating everything artful. Taking place on the Ithaca Commons, this free admission event features an eclectic selection of craft and food vendors, stand-up comedy performances, and well over 50 different live music acts. And a parade. Sound overwhelming? Just take a day trip!
There?s honestly too much going on to fit into a short blog post so head over to their website for a full schedule of events and find out what sounds most interesting to you.
