For many of us on the North Side of Corning, there’s excitement in the air over the coming Tops supermarket in the plaza with Original Italian Pizza. I can walk there from my house, so I strolled over this morning to get more info. Many of you may already know this but I was absolutely shocked to hear from the the construction supervisor that this isn’t going to be a Tops at all! Yes, Tops was the intended original tenant, but the space was “too small for their needs” and they pulled out. ?Desperate to find a new tenant, the plaza owner reached out to other grocery brands to fill the partially finished supermarket space.
Trader Joe’s to the Rescue!
Cool people rejoice! Trader Joe’s came riding in on a white stallion. If you’re not familiar with Trader Joe’s, this isn’t your standard supermarket. Normally found in larger cities or suburbs, Trader Joe’s has high quality food, amazing prices, and a store-brand that can’t be beat. If you know anyone who has ever lived by one, they’ve already told you about their favorite Trader Joe’s products (personally I love Trader Joe’s Fresh Salsa). Also, all staff members wear Hawaiian shirts, which is pretty awesome.

The Friendly’s that is currently located in the plaza with this future food mecca is becoming the popular chain restaurant… wait for it…?Cheesecake Factory! How I understood it is that Trader Joe’s has some sort of building partnership with Cheesecake Factory, and that’s why we are getting both at the same time. Not familiar? Cheesecake Factory is known for their ridiculously large meals that no human could possibly follow with a giant slice of cheesecake, but they do anyway. I’m incredibly depressed about how all of this is happening right before I move… and all within walking distance to my house!
The Timeline
Because construction was partially completed for the supermarket space, the Cheesecake Factory is moving along relatively quickly in order to catch up. Both are projected to be completed mid-summer. In fact, if you drive by today you’ll see that 100% of this was a lie. Happy April Fool’s day suckers.
