Holmes Plate BurgerIn the recent issue of Life in the Finger Lakes, Holmes’ Plate 54 was mentioned as one of the best burgers in the Finger Lakes (click here for full article). The author looked at two other places: Stone Cat on Seneca Lake (I also love Stone Cat), and Mom’s Diner in Savona.

My girlfriend, being sick and unable to force me into her skinny person salad binge, accepted my request to consume a Holmes Plate burger for the sake of this review, confirming or denying it’s greatness.[clear]

Please, disregard these facts that make my review differ from the LITFL article:

  • I am not a professional eater of burgers
  • I don’t have ridiculous criteria like no “dining out next to a highway of loud, rattling trucks…” (is that a challenge?)
  • I do not compare only “traditional hamburgers”
  • In fact, I’m not comparing this to anything. I’m lazy because I just ate a burger
  • This review is basically pointless since I already know Holmes Plate burgers are awesome
  • This article is a thinly veiled excuse to eat a burger. Where is my burger? Did I already eat it? Damn it.

Beyond Good and Evil

Holmes Plate

Holmes Plate has an entire menu page dedicated to burgers, so I’m not going to be the weirdo who orders the plain one [Urban Corning 1 – Life in the Finger Lakes 0]. I went for the Spicy Thai Burger – Sweet Chili Sauce, Red Onion, Grilled Pineapple. I planned ahead; I was going to impress my girlfriend with how not fat I am by only eating half. That plan failed miserably. The sauce was awesome, burger cooked perfectly, and the pineapple… totally not as weird as it sounds. I give this burger the Amateur Burger Eaters of America Award of “I’d order it again”.

Before you think I’m a huxster, having sold out to the man for all I can eat burgers (Note: I’m not saying I WOULD’T be one of those), I will mention the negatives: 1) I ordered chips instead of fresh cut fries (rookie mistake). 2) The Spicy Thai Burger… not that spicy. 3) Grilled pineapple… not that grilled (although I didn’t really inspect it). That being said, I’m not a picky eater, but if you do happen to be a picky eater, you should be made aware that your friends think you’re annoying.

Events

Holmes plate always has stuff going on. I often post their events because there’s never a cover. They have a show coming up that benefits local kids who need some help getting the summer camp experience (via the Corning YMCA Y.E.S. Camp), click here for more info.
