This is a difficult post for me; I think Walker Cake Company (127 W. Market Street, Corning, NY) has replaced Old World Cafe as my go-to light lunch spot in Corning. Old World is still great, but Walker has done an overhaul in the past few months: improving their menu, reorganizing the interiors, and adding outdoor seating. I really like the atmosphere here – something that a few otherwise great places in Corning are lacking. It also helps that everything here tastes freakin awesome.
The first thing you’ll notice going into Walker is that they have style. The walls and counters are lined with chalkboard, showing off their extensive menu in a flurry of colorful handwriting and designs. It can be a bit overwhelming, especially if you happen to show up during a busy lunch hour. If it’s your first visit, you can find easier-to-manage printed menus at the front counter.
The menu has expanded with a ton of excellent breakfast & lunch items. I generally prefer small menus – big menus are intimidating, don’t suite my A.D.D., and when I’m hungry I don’t want to hunt. However, Walker has created an amazing arrangement of unique items that will keep me coming back to try new things. The photos above show (in order) the Chiven Chicken Sandwhich (w / awesome chive cream cheese), Asian Chicken Salad ( great if you need a tasty curry fix), and Cream of Crab soup (which was on special).
For Breakfast
- Oatmeal, cream of wheat, cornmeal with tons of topping choices.
- Bagel sandwiches and spreads from apple butter to garlic cream cheese.
- From the griddle: Bacon, eggs, sausage, and home fries.
- Tons of tasty sounding omlets
- Various breakfast sandwiches on croissants or sourdough.
- Waffles & Pancakes (too many to list) from bacon apple to chocolate chip.
- Platters of french toast, eggs, breakfast salad, and more.
- Extensive Coffee / Latte menu.
For Lunch
- Salads (too many to list): I loved the Asian (curry) Chicken.
- Wraps & Sandwhiches (too many to list): Liked the Chiven Chicken, loved the Classic Philly, and can’t resist anything on a croissant.
- Daily specials: soups, salads, and sandwhiches.
- And new to the menu Smoothies (which work just as well for breakfast).
- I know I’m forgetting some other things, but I guess you’ll just have to go check them out.
I noticed your business on the news the other night and I must say ” What a knock out”. With all respect I don’t know who she was but I’ll give her a five star rating. Do you make red velvet cakes and is she married, no but seriously is she married.
