I drove up to Hector, NY yesterday for lunch at Stonecat Café. Hector is located on the east side of Seneca Lake and Stonecat sits amongst the local wineries of the area. It’s has a great atmosphere, fantastic food (using almost all local organic produce), and a good selection of local wines. My girlfriend and I splurged a little with a mid priced sparkling wine from Atwater.
We sat outdoors on the patio for lunch, and in a attempt to save some calories, skipped an appetizer; the hardest to resist was the cheese plate that sounded out of this world. My girlfriend got the Maple Cured Smoked Tofu Salad. I’m not usually a fan of tofu, but whatever black magic they use in their smoking process made it a killer salad. The miso-ginger dressing, also great. I got one of the daily specials, which was an open-faced roast beef. This picture does it justice I think:
The roast beef had a lot of flavor on it’s own, but the special mayo on the side was hard to resist. See that side of dill coleslaw? Yeah… that was awesome too.
Check them out for lunch [Thursday through Saturday – Noon to 4:30] or dinner [Wednesday through Sunday – 5 to 9]. Their website (which could use an update) mentions a Sunday Jazz Brunch from 10:30-3 (band from 11-2). It’s not a huge place, so if you want to make reservations (probably a good idea on weekends) call them up at 607-546-5000.
