That awesome club sandwich you are gawking at is from Jelly Beans (319 South Hamilton Street, Painted Post, NY). I was attempting to eat healthy. Well at least it’s not a burger right? And I only ate half of it. So I was pretty good. Except for the bacon. and guacamole. and fries. … damn it. My girlfriend got a Salad. So I at least SAW a salad. Oh wait her salad had steak on it. Hmmmm. But it’s not like it was a burger right?
I always forget about Jelly Beans and I don’t know why. It’s not like it’s that far out of the way (from Corning, drive towards and then past WalMart in Painted Post, it’s on the left after you go through a couple of red lights…. I mean green lights. Don’t go through the lights if they are red). One of my favorite things about Jelly Beans is they have breakfast 24 /7. So it’s kind of like a diner, even though they don’t really push themselves as a “diner.” I should have taken some photos inside, but it was packed and I didn’t want to get odd looks. Basically it’s a Jelly Belly themed restaurant that has a fun but not over the top decor. The menu is big and the food is presented well.
They have a full breakfast menu including: eggs, omelets, wraps, French toast, pancakes, cream chipped beef, eggs benedict… and anything else you might imagine (including Frittatas… I have no idea what a Frittata is. It sounds made up, but is probably delicious). Appetizers? You bet your asspatizer (remind me to delete that joke before I publish this). Their online menu lists 16 appetizers. They are the standards from chicken wings to the non-standard like “pickle fries.” They have beer and wine too. Lunch: sandwiches, burgers, salads, gyros (my girlfriend assures me this is pronounced “your-oh”… she speaks greek), melts, etc… I won’t get into dinners, just assume they have it.
They push the triple-decker clubs on their menu, so I ordered the BLT w/ guacamole (see photo above). It was good. I ate half of it for lunch the next day. Way too many tomatoes to fit in my mouth, but other than that, quite awesome. The guacamole really stood out in the flavor and kept it from being just another dry toasted BLT.
My girlfriend got the Spice-Crusted Steak Salad w/ raspberry vinaigrette. It must have been really good because I only got one bite. Or maybe mine was so good that I forgot to ask her for another bite. Or maybe I’m fat and don’t like salad. The portions here seemed pretty big, and the prices very reasonable (I forget the exact prices, but our total was under $20 including tip).
I’ve had breakfast here in the past and loved it. If you have a picky family, this is a good place because of their big selection and good prices. It’s also a little out of town so you can threaten to leave them there if they don’t behave. But maybe they’d want to be left there. I would; every meal ends not with mints, but a dime bag (literally, it’s a dime bag) of Jelly Belly’s.
